HAPPY HYPOXIA- What you need to know!
WHAT IS 'HAPPY HYPOXIA'?
WHY IS THIS WORD GETTING POPULAR THESE DAYS?
Happy Hypoxia is a condition in which a person does not feel or show any symptoms of being deprived of oxygen. It is also called silent hypoxia sometimes. In general, Hypoxia refers to low to very low levels of oxygen in blood and tissues. The normal oxygen saturation level in humans is above 94% whereas a patient having 'Happy Hypoxia' usually has an oxygen saturation level below 90%. This term got popular in recent times due to this COVID-19 pandemic. Young COVID-19 patients especially asymptomatic patients showed this unusual trend of low levels of saturated partial pressure of oxygen (SpO2) in blood. This condition has made researchers and doctors perplexed. Keep reading to know the scientific reason behind this. 'The Biotech People' have sorted out the common FAQs and doubts that are sure to arise in your mind.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF 'HAPPY HYPOXIA'?
Happy Hypoxic people show symptoms only if their saturation level goes as low as 50-70%. The commonly detected symptoms in COVID-19 patients were 'bluish lips', continuous sweating even while in a relaxed state and not being in a hot environment or surrounding, cyanosis (skin decolorization to slight red or purple color), and rarely dyspnea (shortness of breath)
HOW CAN WE IDENTITY 'HAPPY HYPOXIA' IN A PERSON?
The best advice is to constantly monitor the oxygen saturation level and also notice the above-mentioned symptoms.
*NOTE: Not all low oxygen saturation level be called a 'Happy Hypoxic' condition or COVID-19 positive or any other lung diseases, oxygen level can go down due to various other reasons such as mild cold or cough due to which PHLEGM (Mucus in lungs) can increase in volume and thereby reducing the SpO2 levels.
If the oxygen level is reducing constantly then medical care is a must.

The knowledge on saturation partial pressure of O2 are like need of the hour now and the simple yet significant information about what's to be aware of has been put in a comprehensive manner, I believe.
The levels that you have mentioned must be noted down by everyone who come across and read this blog.
I encourage you to keep posting these kind of need of the hour stuffs as it's what we laymen want from you sciencemen!
