White Fungus In India, Is it a fresh threat?
The Emergence of WHITE FUNGUS
During these tough times, followed by black fungus or Mucormycosis, which has been announced as an epidemic in all states. Other fungal infections such as candidiasis, the white fungus, have also been found to affect some people in our country. New cases of white fungus have been reported in Patna, Bihar and this infection is more dangerous than black fungus. With your curiosity read down to know about white fungus.

Aspergillosis or white fungus
is an infection caused by a type of mold called aspergillus. This fungus is very common, both indoors and outdoors and they grow well in organic matters. Most people breathe the spores of the fungus every day without being affected. But some people get the disease. It occurs in people with low immunity and those who take steroids for a long time.
There are nearly 180 species of aspergillus.
It has many forms such as:
- Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis(ABPA)
- Allergic Aspergillus sinusitis
- Aspergilloma
- Chronic pulmonary aspergillosis
- Invasive aspergillosis
- Cutaneous aspergillosis
Each type of aspergillosis causes different symptoms. Among the most common are allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) and invasive aspergillosis.
What is ABPA?
Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis is also called pulmonary eosinophilia. It is caused as a result of type one and types three hypersensitivity reactions to germinating fungal spores of aspergillus fumigatus. It complicates the course of asthma and cystic fibrosis. It shows symptoms like fever, cough production of bronchial casts, and worsening of asthmatic symptoms. In the initial stage, it causes bronchoconstriction (the airways become narrower, which blocks the flow of air and makes it harder to breathe for the patient). It may cause permanent damage as bronchiectasis(widening of bronchi ). The four cases in Bihar show covid like symptoms but they test negative and It diagnosis by CXR (chest X-ray) and HRCt (High-Resolution computer tomography/graphic) scan chest and it also diagnosed by sputum test, tissue, and blood test, etc., They use systemic glucocorticoids and antifungals for treatment. In some cases, antifungal medications do not penetrate more effectively so they prefer surgery to remove the fungal mass. surgery will prefer in cases in which aspergilloma causes bleeding in the lungs.
After aspergillus fumigatus, aspergillus flavus is the second leading cause of invasive aspergillosis. In Jabalpur, 55-year-old men who recovered from covid-19 have been detected with white fungus or aspergillus flavus infection. Aspergillus flavus which also called mycotoxin producer, produces a variety of secondary metabolites such as aflatoxin, cyclopiazonic acid, aspergillus acid, paspaline, etc., invasive aspergillosis cause symptoms like fever, cough, chest pain, coughing up blood, shortness of breath. It affects people who have week immunity and those who have done stem cell or organ transplants and those who are undergoing chemotherapy for cancer. These types of infections can be prevented by avoiding activities that include close contact with the outer environment especially for those who take medications for a long time, be hygiene be aware and make awareness among your family and friends. If these cases increase continuously there will be a shortage of medicines so stay at home and stay safe, be strong.
